Some of you may know that I’m working on a book called “Giving the Business To Social Media – Hype, Hope, Bust, Reality”, and I’d really like your input. Specifically, just one question for now.
Why do you use Social Media?
Simple question. Complicated answers? Maybe. Even if you don’t use Twitter, or Facebook, or YouTube or even blog, let us know why not.

It’s quick. I can gather / review mor info in 1 place vs email, blogs, websites and so forth. If business / organization pages were NOT on Face Book, I probably would nto use it. I really like being able to review my clients’ pages in one quick glance.
That’s interesting. So it’s primarily that you can access the pages all in one place?
I am not quite sure how it might be quicker, to be honest. Does it take that much longer to click on a bookmarked website than it does to go to a Facebook page? Not disputing here, but I’m not quite getting it.
I use Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter for my business mainly to connect with folks in or interested in the industry (Education, Writing, Training, Instructional Design, etc…). Not that I get many leads or projects from it, but it makes it easy to find resources as well when I have a need on a project and let’s say I need a voice talent or Flash programmer. Just one quick post and oila! :-}
will social media is one of fastest channels which can provid you by people openion and feedback , also broadcast information and messages you want to spread it between the community ,,
In the early stages of almost every social network, I opened an account and gave it a whirl. My verdict? I have better things to do. I guess in the end I’m probably less social or less interested then most in being social so I never really “connected” to the services before I became bored with them.
I often walk past people I know, perhaps not very well, but have atleast had one or two conversations with. In seeing them, instead of stopping for a chat and a catch up, either them, or I, or both of us, remain submerged in our own worlds of Blackberry Messenger, Whatsapp, Facebook, or whatever other form virtual conversation has us enthrawled at that specific moment. Now I personally am a big fan of all the above mentioned social media, but cannot shake the feeling that it has a way of making social interaction just that little bit too impersonal. I imagine the way it was done not too long ago, was to stop and ask questions of the other, and find out all the new developments and gossip happening in people’s lives. These days we just log onto Facebook to gather the relevant curiousity curing info that keeps us from having to have an actual conversation with anyone. The bottom line question is, where is the line being drawn between convenience, and people turning their backs on the most important and fundamental aspects of what makes us such uniquely social beings in the first place?
I use social media for work – just to have a presence. But honestly, I find it irritating and rarely use it in my personal life.
Yes, I use social media for my business. However, I was instructed long ago that as much as possible should be automated, as it is not cost effective to do it myself.
For the most part this is what I do, with the exception of sites like FB and LinkedIn.
