About Here and TOS

Welcome to The Curmudgeonly Trainer. I am Robert Bacal, and I have to say that I’m a little bit curmudgeonly, indeed.

I actually hate blogs (and I guess this is what this is), but I realized that there really isn’t a place where I can express my views and opinions in a fun and enjoyable way, and where people might read and find them if they choose.

Part of it is that the two major discussion lists on which I have or might participate in related to training and development persist on the very odd practice of concealing their content from search engines, in effect hiding from people. There’s a huge degree of good stuff, but for some unfathomable reason, owners want it secret (unless of course, you already know its there). It’s goofy. Frankly, if I take the time to write something intelligent, I want as many people as possible to read it, evaluate it, benefit by it, or scoff at it. It ain’t nothin unless people read it, an old writing teacher of mine told me long ago!

Shortly, I’ll add more information about me personally to this page, but I’d like to set out some terms and issues. What follows sounds a bit ominous, but you know…the legalities thing.

1) All material on this blog is copyright Robert Bacal, and while you may link to it, or quote it under fair use provisions, it may not be reproduced in any way, print or electronic, without express permission.

2) Material on this blog may have appeared elsewhere, and is being reprinted here to make it available for wider viewing.

3) When material from email messages or other forums are quoted herein, it is done so under the fair use provisions of copyright acts which allows for such reasonable quoting for commentary, review or satirical purposes.

4) If you are quoted here, and do not wish your text snippets to be here, please feel free to ask us to remove the snippets or quotes. While we are not legally obligated to remove fairly used material, if you indeed own the copyright, we will almost always agree to your request.

5) On occasion we may print emails sent to us privately. We only do that in the event that there is content in the email we feel is important to reveal and/or the content is offensive, and/or the content contains threats or… Unless you are outright attacking in a blatant way, we believe, however that exposing private emails is a bad thing. However, if you want to fight, don’t count on the protection of private email to cover abuse.
